“One of the pleasant surprises of the festival were the Blakes, a Seattle trio who recently signed to Light in the Attic Records. The group blended Dandy Warhols-ish swampy guitars, twitchy Strokes rhythms, and power-pop vocal harmonies, offering an energetic and unmannered romp through modern rock radio. With messy arrangements and a theatrical drummer fond of the both-sticks-in-the-air poses, their bluesy-cool rock brought a bit of a dirty nightclub vibe to the sunny (if already very windy) afternoon.”

Pitchfork

The Blakes prefer a brand of sinful transgressions that the major labels just can’t live up to, leaving the band to their rock’n’roll ways with the party animals at indie label Light in the Attic. Representing Seattle’s grittier side, the Blakes rocked their native city with a bit of spunk and kick, leaving breezy melodies in the dust in favor of garage-rock bravado, stomping and shouting with their punchy retro flair. Check out the band sporting dirty vest and sleeveless tees, shredding on a Flying V but also disclosing their vices as they sit down with SPIN.com to admit their penchant for tequila in the back of the van and their CMJ plans.

Spin

Getting beyond their gorgeous hair and rockstar names, Seattle-based band The Blakes sound like the swagger of early ’60s Brit-rock and the sneer of early punk rock. In some ways, it sounds like an updated version of Jesus and the Mary Chain, except with the sterling drumming capabilities of Bob Husack.
